Top 3 Tasks To Do this spring to keep your roof in top notch condition.
Spring is here. You know what that means, get the grill ready. Time to start the lawn mower up, time to start taking care of the garden, all the activities to keep to landscaping in tip top form.
But what about your roof? Your roof needs to be in top notch condition as well. A goof roof prevents costly problems in the future but most home owners seem to over look this.
No one wants to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars because of a roof leak.
So to possibly avoid this here are 3 tasks to do this spring to keep your roof in good condition.
Task #1: Inspecting your shingles
With snow and ice sitting on your shingles all winter it is important to check for any signs of damage. Damage can be in the forms of loss or missing shingles. Cracked shingles or nails pops (nails penetrating the shingles). It is key that you inspect your shingles this spring to catch any damage before it gets worse.
Task #2: Gutter Cleaning
The next task is to clean out your gutters. Other than making sure your shingles are in good shape, gutter cleaning is the next most important task. Clean gutters allows water to flow properly, preventing water backup. Also cleaning any debris out of the gutters like leaves and dirt, this will maintain proper water flow. You don’t want water backing up and sneaking behind the system and into your home. So clean those gutters!
Task #3: Re Caulking exposed areas
There are a few areas on every roof that have exposed areas. Such as nails on your end ridge cap, nails on pipe boots, and nails on box vents. Re Sealing these nails makes sure they are water tight and prevent water from sneaking in from these areas.
If you have a brick chimney on your roof, check and re seal the counter flashing. Again making sure that water will not get into the home from these areas.
Bonus Task: Clearing Debris
Bonus tip. Clean any debris off your roof, remove tree branches and blow off any leaves. You want to remove any excess stress that gets put onto the shingles. The less elements that affect your shingles the better.
In summary spring cleaning your roof is an important task to be done. You want to get as much life as you can out of your roofing system and maintenance plays a huge roll in that. Again your tasks for this spring are to clean out your gutters, inspect your shingles, clear any debris off and re seal any exposed areas. Roof maintenance is key to catching problems before they get out of hand.
* These tasks do require you to get up onto your roof so if you don’t feel comfortable climbing a ladder and getting up there. Call a professional that will help you out.
